Everybody has a story to tell ....
A warm welcome from me. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking an interest in memoir writing. I created Folk & Lore because I get great pleasure in listening to peoples stories. Turning them into a lasting memoir is something I am honored to do, and something I love to do.
I believe I have excellent credentials to assist you with this process. I have a vast amount of writing and work experience, both in government, private sector and a business owner. More relevant, I have worked in the funeral industry and gained invaluable knowledge and skills. I followed this up with funeral celebrant work, a role which I found incredibly fulfilling. I love sitting down with families and hearing the stories of their loved ones.
I wrote extensive notes in order to prepare a full funeral service, which often included writing a eulogy, then deliver the service on the day. Families were reliant on their own memories of their loved one, and this formed the basis of the eulogy. As time went on I thought about how valuable it would be to speak directly to the person who had passed away, to hear their stories first-hand, but of course it was too late for that.
This has all inspired me to start Folk & Lore, and provide an opportunity for people to tell their stories and have a lasting memoir while they are still alive, a 'living eulogy' if you like. I love the opportunity that this provides for folk to be involved with having a memoir written mostly in their own words, many times recollecting moments that their families may not even know about, and enabling conversations, healing, growth and respect while learning more about them. When it's all said and done, there is no-one better placed to talk about your life than you.
I have a down-to-earth writing style, and have been involved with all sorts of writing over many years, including writing the finishing touches to my own autobiography. I love to incorporate humor, quotes, photos and those small moments in time that turned into big moments.
People want memoirs for differing reasons. Some want one as a gift for their families, or to be read and shared at a significant birthday. Others want one tucked away in preparedness for reading at their funeral, which then provides a wonderful 'surprise' after their passing - like hearing from them again after they have passed away. Whatever your motivation for wanting a lasting memorial of your life, you can rest assured it will be a cathartic and worthwhile process, and resources well spent.
